The Labyrinth

French Bread

At about 5pm (or should I say 17 heure) you will begin to notice long lines at the local boulangerie (bakery) in order to buy the mandatory freshly baked bread for dinner. Bread here is a staple to be eaten with any meal; including French, Mexican and Japanese cuisines. It is delicious, so why not? Just a note...It is customary to keep the bread on the table instead of your plate. It is not eaten as an appetizer as in the U.S. Instead, it is to be eaten after the main course in order to scoop up the leftover sauce on the plate. Butter and knives are not required as you simply tear each bite with your hands (this rule does not apply at the fine restuarants) So, when in Paris do as the Parisians do. Bon appetit!
